Horse-riding on the beach

My girlfriend's family has always been involved with horse-riding, and now that the youngest, Michelle, has been riding for a while, she asked me to capture a few moments on her horse, Ben, before she left to go back up to Port Alfred for flight school.

We went down to Noordhoek beach, but only for a little while as the wind was blowing somewhat, and Ben, was not enjoying the sand in his nostrils. Nor was I. Just joking :)
These are the results of what we managed to capture:

Greased lighting!

I was up on Tafelberg road a couple of weeks back, trying out a technique I saw posted on a photographic forum. The South-Easter wind was howling down the mountain, had to literally hold onto my camera and tripod to prevent it from blowing down the mountain. Will try this again when the wind is gusting so much haha..
These are the results from the experiment:

Bye bye vroom vroom

There are few things dearer to a man's heart than the cars he owns in his lifetime. As a kid, they were the vehicle to the world of make-believe. When a boy grows up into a man, to him, they represent freedom, independence, confidence & sophistication, to name but a few. And when the time comes to end an era with a particular car, parting is such sweet sorrow. When my good friend, Shaun, asked me to take some photos to help him remember what the car meant to him in the time that he had her, I instantly empathised with him, and thus attempted to capture her true essence. We headed up to Signal Hill and Tafelberg Road one early weekday morning, and this is what was delivered..

World AIDS Day

With Table Mountain down as one of the nominee's on the new list for the world's "7 Natural Wonders of the World", it's bound to be in the global spotlight more often. Rising majestically up behind the beautiful city of Cape Town, this magnificent icon is widely recognised as a symbol of the city, and of its cosmopolitan people. Not surprising why it has become more and more popular to be focused upon when it comes to advertising world events and celebrations.
With 2011 being Ireland's "International Year of Tourism", Table Mountain and a few other world icons, such as Big Ben and Sydney Harbor Bridge, were lit up in green to mark St Patrick's Day. But what got it all started was the commemoration of World AIDS Day on Dec 1st of last year. This day also saw the highlighting of Table Mountain in colour, red, but whereas St Paddy's was a commemoration of a life once past, World AIDS Day is a celebration of life present, and of that to come, for those who suffer from AIDS.
We truly hope to see Table Mountain lit up again this year; a beacon for all those throughout Cape Town, South Africa, Africa and the world that are afflicted with the virus, so that they know that they're not alone in the darkness that they face. Where there is light, there is always hope. :)

Why I love Table Mountain

There isn't a greater sight in the world to behold when you arrive in the most beautiful city in Africa, Cape Town.. Time and time again, this ol' slab of rock draws one to it with magical reverence and hypnotic curiosity. It isn't only standing on top, viewing a 360 degree panorama, but also exploring its fynbos-covered slopes, gorges and forest that gives one a deeper understanding to its role in people's lives, and to the fauna and flora that cover it. This is but one perspective of Table Mountain, mine.
